Teach Us To Pray

One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When He finished, one of his disciples said to Him, "Lord, teach us to pray."
Luke 11:1 I have one pair of beautiful gold hoop earrings. I was getting ready for bed one evening last week and was taking my earrings off when I discovered one was missing. Needless to say I was devastated. We looked all over and couldn't find a trace of the missing earring. We had taken a long walk that day so I decided to retrace that walk with Harrison a few days later.
I knew it would be like finding a needle in a haystack, but prayed, "God, it would be really neat if I could find my earring; please help me find it." We had almost completed the route when a glint caught my eye in the grass on the side of the road!
It was my earring! But no longer in a round shiny gold hoop. It had been completely smashed and run over by some vehicle. But I wasn't the least bit upset by it because I was so excited that God had answered my prayer- I had found my earring!
I never specifically prayed for it to be found in perfect condition, I prayed that I would find it and I did. I think finding my earring smashed flat was even better than finding it whole. I am learning that sometimes we pray for things very vaguely or half doubting they will be answered. But God hears and He does answer prayers. We are learning to pray specifically, detailed, and whole hearted to our Father who hears us.
Thank you God for teaching us to pray.
