Car "Keys"

Harrison recently discovered that there's more than one way to play the piano. Just your typical innovative boy to invent a race car recital!

He Just Couldn't Wait

So he wanted a slice of cheese, no big deal, but I needed him to wait while I finished preparing something else. I guess he couldn't wait so while I turned to finish what I was doing I heard him behind me making his "yummmm" noise... Why wait for a slice when you can just eat off the whole block! The guy had nibbled off an entire end by the time I got my camera stopped him! He was pretty pleased with himself for figuring out a way to get some cheese all on his own.
He has excellent problem solving skills, now to work on his patience skills...

Because I Don't Want To Forget...

...some of the things you say, they way you view the world right now, and your 15 month old line of thought.
I want to remember how you say "dis one" when you choose something out......and if I offer something else you say, "no, dis one mommy."
And I love how you ask to sing the "B-I-B-L-E" song.
You say, "I-E-I-E-I".
And when you want to say the alphabet... ...You say Ah-E-Ah. And I love how you call your airplane blanket "ah-oo"; not sure why, but it's still cute.
And my favorite moment by far... ...was the other night when you said your first full prayer to Jesus all on your own. You said, "Jesus, tank-you day, Amen". You are such an amazing young man and I pray that you will have a growing relationship with Jesus where you learn to talk to Him every day. We love you our big boy and are very proud of the young man you are already becoming!

Mischievous Inc. Ink

He knows how to find the moments- you know, the ones where I am preoccupied. Even if it's just for a few seconds... He can sense the opportune moment and he seizes it-just like he seized my pen... And he proceeded to quell his curiosity by thoroughly investigating all of the pen properties, including the ink.
I had no idea he knew how to click it open, but then why should I be surprised-he knows how to unscrew drawer pulls, and take batteries out of the remote controls-so operating an ink pen was child's play...literally!
Let's say he was quite pleased with his new discovery and of his "abstract ink pen on leg" art piece. I have to admit it was pretty cute, but now I'm off to hide all other ink pens-don't want to risk any future art pieces on walls or worse!

Who's Your Daddy?

I can't think of many things these two guys do apart... Harrison hugs his Daddy goodbye before work and sits at the door for a long time after he leaves calling for him...
The minute he hears the key in the front door in the evening he runs for it shrieking, "Daaaadddddyyyyyy!!" (emphasis added) They shave together every morning, they brush their teeth, Harrison likes to eat whatever Daddy is eating, they play Wii, read books, and Harrison wants to show him every new thing he has learned or discovered.
The best part is I get to observe it all and cherish my two men and the bond they have. I love watching Matt's gentle leading and the way he gives Harrison all the time in the world to make him feel important. He teaches Harrison about life and about our Heavenly Father. I am blessed to be married to such a wonderful Dad to our son. I know Harrison will grow to be just like him because of the example he is.

Stuck in the Kiddie Pool?

Harrison likes to "try on" things before making a commitment... ...He's never sure something is as much fun as we try to convince him it is.
"Mimi, are you sure? That looks cold!"
He takes a long time to make his mind up about liking something or not...
...and he literally has to test the waters.
He finally settled on something smaller, more his size-after even further convincing from us.
But then again, aren't we the same with God? Sometimes I think we miss out on the bigger and better "pool" because we feel safer in the shallow, kiddie pool.
And sometimes we fight God's plan even more and skip out on getting to swim in a pool altogether and stick with the water in our sippy cups.
I guess I'm still learning with Harrison-to take a leap of faith, and dive in.

Wii Wonder

It started so young, Harrison's new favorite thing to play is Wii. His Daddy can barely walk in the door and Harrison is running to him with the Wii remote begging to play "Wii, Wii, Daddy?!"
He really gets into it, cheering for the players, pointed to the ball, plane, or whatever is in play at the moment.
But even at this young age he knows what isn't reality...
...and the realization of swinging a club and not making contact can't offer satisfaction for very long.
And so he got himself a real ball and took a real swing at it, just to bring himself back to reality a "Wii" bit.
(Ok, bad joke-I know :)

Suck It Up

He has trucks and cars, blocks and balls, books and trains, Yet, he wanted this...a vacuum cleaner!
He loves mine and a friend introduced us to this-his new favorite, pint sized Dirt Devil!
He spends hours vacuuming the floors, diligently pushing it back and forth.
And with all the technology of the other toys sitting in his toy box, you would think they could have made the toy vacuum actually suck up dirt...hmm, wonder how to patent that?

Summer Days

My favorite time of the year is here-Summertime! I think it's Harrison's favorite too.
He loves being able to go outside at anytime of the day... He loves watermelon, and chasing frogs...
He loves homemade ice cream and not having to wear a coat...
and now he also has discovered he loves sprinklers!
Ok, well not at first-he actually wanted nothing do with it, but...
throw in a Frisbee, some grandparent encouragement, and the heat of the day...
and this boy was hooked!
" Thanks grandma and grandpa for letting me play in the sprinkler!"

June 15

Today we celebrate the incredible man we have as leader of our family. Today is the day we make homemade carrot cake, wrap presents as difficult to open as possible, we hint at surprises, and spoil our man to pieces. Though at our house we celebrate birthday month, this day is the day we really pour it on. But no matter how much I do today or throughout the month it wouldn't be enough to celebrate this man. To the man I respect, honor, and cherish, I pray God's blessings on you today and throughout this year. I know God has an amazing plan for you and I am honored to be at your side as you discover it. Happy Birthday Matt! We love you!

Hide It In Your Heart

Everyone who comes to Me and hears My words and acts on them,
I will show you whom he is like:
He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid a foundation on the rock;
And when a flood occurred, the torrent burst against that house and could not shake it,
because it had been well built.

Test Drive

While at Toys "R" Us we passed by that aisle, you know the one that every kid begs and pleads to go down and touch and ride everything possible? Kids are born with a knowledge that this aisle is the "it" aisle of the whole store and Harrison only served to prove my point.
He immediately began pointing and making his engine noises because he saw them- the cars! Not matchbox cars, not push cars, but the drivable, fully operating, should need a licence to drive, cars! He was in heaven! These things have come a long way since I was a kid. They now have radios and a choice of make and models to rival CarMax!
I'm kinda glad Harrison was a little bored with the Cadillac SUV-the price tag on that things was about 1/3 of the real thing!
But this one? This one he can have! If you know me, you know I had a beloved JEEP and miss that truck like crazy. I think Harrison might have a little affection for the JEEP himself- well, I'm hoping at least.
And then of course there was the Harley-not so sure I'm ready to embrace this fascination. Overall, the guy had a blast test driving the "vroommmms" and I'm glad, because none of these high priced vehicles will be coming home with us anytime soon.

Toys "R" Us Kid

We finally did it-we introduced Harrison to the kid dream store.
We took Harrison to Toys "R" Us for the first time and we got to be kids all over again with him! With toys as far as the eye could see in every direction the place was an overload for him, but he found his own rhythm scarily fast and plunged forward into all things boy! Super soakers, Tonka trucks, train sets, cars, and soldiers-this guy knows what he likes!
"Look Dad, LEGO cars! Can we get them?"
"Here Mom, I'll just throw a few of these tubs in the cart."
"A dog! Can we take him home?"
"This is the coolest ever Dad!"
"Look at those wheels! It's a big truck! Vroooomm!"
"I think we should just take one of everything!"
