Country Boy

I guess we now know Harrison's pride of being a country boy...

The National Pigeons

What's your favorite sight in our nation's capitol? Out of all the breathtaking monuments... and riveting architecture... This guy fell in love with the National Pigeons!
Oh you mean you have never made sure to visit the National Pigeons while in DC?
Well, it's a thrill to chase and tease these national icons; at least to a one-year-old!

Mr. Personality

This guy is quite the tease lately. I think he looks for opportunities to strike up reactions of gasps and shrieks. "Look Mom, I can balance on this wall with no help! Don't worry, I'll be careful." "Ah, Mom, I'm falling!"

"Just kidding! Made you look! Haha!"

The Baby on the Bus Metro Moves All Around

This past weekend we took a family day trip to Washington, D.C. We had a wonderful day filled with many firsts, including a first Metro experience for Harrison.
This guy was thrilled to be on the "choo-choo". Believe me, we tried to explain that this wasn't a choo-choo, but when he's convinced you are just wasting your breath :)
He had to find his perfect seat. He tried a side window seat and he tried standing and holding on to the pole but I guess those were not what he wanted.
And so he searched to find a seat that was just right. One thing about this little man is that he knows what he likes and won't stop until he finds it.
And so he seat hopped around the Metro-which was almost completely empty thank goodness.
And finally decided mommy's lap with his airplane blanket was just right!

Doing A Man's Job

Though he is only 17 months old, Harrison doesn't let his age hold him back. It's like he knows he's a man and wants to work just as hard.
There was no way he was going to listen to being to small to hold that shovel and toss mulch...
No sir-ee, he jumped right in there and stayed right with it. I have to admit watching him dig and heave that shovel made me think of the man he is becoming.
I'm pretty proud of him. So far the character of this little man is hard-working, dedicated, loyal, and driven.
I think he is going to be some pretty special man, since he is already a pretty special little guy!

Papa's Tractor

As I mentioned before, Harrison is really into tractors right now. I find myself picking routes around town the drive by construction sites, just because I love to see how excited he gets around them. Well his Papa drives forklifts at work and knew Harrison would love to come see them in action. Harrison's face was plastered in a wide open awe the entire time. Papa swooped Harrison up to the driver's seat and away they went. Harrison has not stopped talking about since!

To say that Harrison has had it rough would be putting it mildly. Over the past three weeks, he has had pneumonia, allergies, a busted lip, slammed his finger in the door turning the nail purple, had all things GI related, an in-grown toenail which had to be drained by the doctor with a needle, croup, and an ear infection. In the last three weeks we have been to the doctor five times, had two strep tests (which were negative, yay!), four chest x-rays, the needle punctured mentioned above, and six different medications. Call me indulgent, but I think when my little guy toughs all that out with the best of attitudes and keeps on smiling and being sweet like nothing is amiss, he deserves a little spoiling!
It is a blast to spoil this little guy! I absolutely love looking out for things that would make his little face beam with excitement. These days that smile appears with all things "trackors!" So when I saw this set of tractors I couldn't pass them up!
So my coughing, sniffing, aching, smiling little man has been "clearing land" and "paving roads" all day with his "trackors". Pretty productive for a sick guy.

Swing Time

Harrison loves the swing. Recently his Daddy has started swinging him really high. He has now come to see this as a thrill of a lifetime, but as you can see in this video, the first time down his face belied an extreme uncertainty.

And now his comfort with the swing has grown so much that he will ask to take naps in it. As you can tell, he is pretty content just swinging.

Getting Into Trouble

Harrison has always had a knack for getting into stuff, breaking into cabinets, and raiding the fridge. At our old house I had quickly learned his favorite dives and I could fend off any attacks on my organized pantry or arranged closets.
But now that we have moved, Harrison has a whole new hunting ground ripe with cabinets full of intriguing items such as scrunchies and hair clips. He is having a blast satisfying his curiosity and need to conquer and explore with all the new cabinet spelunking opportunities.
And I have my hands full of following his trails of explorations- and I wouldn't have it any other way! :)

Those Hot Summer Nights

These triple digit evenings are best enjoyed by Harrison with... ...some dirt, a hose, and maybe a popsicle thrown in there somewhere!

Oceanfront Pool

I wasn't too sure how Harrison would do with the ocean... Would he be scared, love it, care less? I was impressed. After the first awkward introductions, "Harrison this is the ocean," "Ocean meet Harrison," and becoming acquainted with its freezing cold waves sweeping around his legs, they hit it off.
Harrison and the ocean had an understanding. Harrison wouldn't invade its space as long as the ocean didn't invade Harrison's space. Occasionally one of them would break their agreement resulting in momentary, "You're not my friend anymore," syndrome.
That is until Grandpa rescued this runaway pool from the ocean. We would fill it up with sea water, drag it up the beach, and Harrison would splash for hours in the salty, gritty bottom pool. By the end, Harrison had completely figured out how to enjoy the ocean his way - a little bit of it in a plastic pool up the beach and away from the waves teasing to knock him down.

Saying Good-Bye

Now that we live over an hour from Matt's job, he is up and out the door early in the morning to face the long commute. Mornings are usually rushed as we get Matt out the door on time. By the time he leaves Harrison is still in his pj's and may or may not have had breakfast yet. But most mornings he has at least had a snack of some sort to hold him over until after Matt leaves and I can fix him breakfast.
Which means his sticky, messy, snack covered fingers leave his "waving" to Daddy all over the glass storm door. But I wouldn't trade having to use Windex every morning just so I can see those sweet fingers on the door saying good-bye to his Daddy.

Let me just say this kid has an imagination. If you listen closely he is saying, "Snow" over and over. And let me also say, this kid knows how to make a mess! :)

Harrison is a ham, this we all know. He never misses an opportunity for a good photo op. Now that he responds to, "Say Cheese" appropriately it is even more entertaining to whip out the camera. So while at the aquarium we couldn't miss the opportunity to place our son within Jaws himself and watch him ham it up for the few hundred cameras in our families possession and for the admiring onlookers.
I stood back as the proud mommy beaming at my cute little man, until I noticed the words right below the shark teeth. Yep, you read that correctly, "Do Not Touch".
I'm super mom I tell you- way to lead by example! I can read, I promise. Now I just have to teach Harrison and maybe he can keep me out of trouble! :)

Rest & Relaxation

One thing I can definitely say is that Harrison knows how to relax... While on vacation he helped himself to Grandpa's massage chair...
...and he loved it! This kid knows what's good... ...and I think he got the idea of relaxing on vacation, well, at least for the five minutes he was in the chair!
